If you watched my instastories last week then you probably saw how much fun I had in Margate with Eastpak and asos. I can’t remember the last time I visited and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the seaside town actually is.

I honestly had such a great time and am currently planning my next trip there! Its only an hour and a half away by train from central London, so perfect for a last minute getaway. Not sold? Keep reading and I’m sure by the end of this post you’ll be booking your train tickets!

What to do

The beach
A clean sandy beach just over an hour away from London, need I say more?! Look at the photos! Laying on the beach I kept saying “I can’t believe we’re in England”. When we visited it wasn’t busy at all and I couldn’t help but feel like I discovered a secret destination. I can’t wait to kick off my shoes and dig my feet in the sand again.

What it lacks in designer or high street fashion shops, Margate more than makes up for this when it comes to a great selection of vintage shops. We spent a good while visiting as many as we could.
*Do check the opening times before you visit as some were closed on the days we travelled 🙁

Shell Grotto
You can’t go to Margate and not visit this mystery grotto. The walls are entirely covered in beautiful mosaics, made up of over 4.6million seashells, but nobody knows why, how or even when it was built!!

Turner Contemporary
As its right on the seafront and admission is free, its definitely a must see. How often do you get to visit an art gallery and enjoy the beach in one day?

How this place had not been on my radar before, is beyond me! If you don’t already know from reading my Disneyland posts, I’m a massive amusement park fan. Vintage rides, street food and a roller disco!!! So gutted we didn’t have time for the roller disco but it means I have an excuse to come back. Did I mention the selection of delicious cocktails? I could go on about the ‘lazy strawberry daiquiri’ I had, it was soo yummy. The most memorable thing for me though was actually the staff that worked there. I’ve never been to an amusement park where everyone was so genuinely friendly, It really just adds to the already fun, positive atmosphere.

Where to eat

GB Pizza
Seconds from the beach, we came here for lunch and it went down a treat. I think its great that the pizzas aren’t so doughy meaning you don’t leave feeling bloated and still have room for ice cream!

Peters fish factory

Of course you have to get fish and chips when at the seaside. Although I only had room for a small portion of chips they were spot on. There was a que, which included both tourists and locals which is always a good sign.

Such a trendy place you’d think that you were in Shoreditch. It was so hard choosing what to order, I opted for the chicken burger but was most impressed with the brownie dessert we shared. Seriously perfect!

Situated moments from the beach and conveniently right under our hotel! I love that they had a variety of random flavours. I went for a scoop of nutella and bubblegum , it melted so quick I could only take this one photo!

Where to stay

Sands hotel

Right on the beachfront this is possibly got to be one of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed in ever! Although I didn’t have the seaside views from my room (next time!) the room was fantastic. I made full use of the massive bathtub and the huge comfy bed. Do order drinks from the bar then make your way up to the rooftop terrace. I can’t explain how blown away we all were by the views. Watching the sunset, I couldn’t help but wish John was with me as it was incredibly romantic. I also noticed they served afternoon tea here which I thought would make for a great gift.

What I Wore

Eastpak Springer Spot Bum Bag Eastpak Tranzshell S Spot Case Eastpak Shop ‘R Black Backpack

Ok so I know a bumbag isn’t for everyone, which I thought was the case for myself but OMG, I am now a complete convert! It solved that annoying problem I have, especially when I’m traveling, which is I have my backpack on but need my phone and purse at hand but i’m wearing a dress without pockets or my pockets are too shallow to put anything in. And come on there is no denying how cute it is? I dare you to try it out and then please thank me for recommending!

#bringbackthebumbag, #handsfreeliving

I’ve included my personal ‘Don’t forget to pack’ list to help you remember those travel essentials.
If you’re like me and are a last minute packer then having a list is a necessity. When I travel with John I usually add contact lenses, solution and case to the list because he always forgets!

Hope you enjoyed reading and if you do decide to visit Margate do @ me, would love to see all your travels too!
